Marlene was born and raised in West Vancouver, British Columbia and from an early age always had an interest in the arts, particularly music and painting. She went to college for fine arts but ended up getting married at a young age and having a family. ( 3 sons ) When empty nest hit, she wanted to paint again full time as there wasn't a lot of time to devote to it before.
She found 2 wonderful artists and studied watercolour, acrylic and mixed media intensively for 3 years in Washington State along with workshops of other artists whose work she admired. Since then she has traveled extensively and applied it to her painting.
When divorce came, she took a leap, got in her car and headed south, not knowing where she was going but knew she needed a change. A small town on the Oregon coast is where she ended up.Time to devote to painting, sculpting, photography, charity work, reading, walking and enjoying all the natural beauty of the ocean and the myriad of life that surrounds it, learning to really "see" beyond the surface. The ocean is very inspiring and healing.
Marlene has also done commission work, illustrating children's books & poetry, designed signs & promotional material for businesses. She has exhibited in galleries in Canada, Washington State, The Virgin Islands and Oregon. She has also been expanding in other mediums most particularly sculpture.
